ABOUT ME

I have been in the caring profession in one way or another throughout my working life, beginning with nursing and midwifery, and I bring all this experience into my counselling. I also bring a passion for the outdoors, working as a professional gardener and an awareness of all the benefits to mental and physical health that the outdoors provides. My recent masters degree research was focused on walk and talk counselling, which has reignited my enthusiasm for this method of counselling and its benefits.

As a qualified counsellor, I have had experience of working with a wide range of mental health difficulties including depression, anxiety, grief, loss, stress, loneliness, relationship difficulties and difficulty coping with significant life events, to name but a few.

It can be difficult to ask for help and may be seen as a weakness, so it takes courage to make that leap. Contact me now to find out more about how I can help you.

ABOUT THE COUNSELLING

I offer a safe and supportive environment to help you to find your way forward.

I believe that your are unique, with your own individual experience of life. Counselling is a process of gaining a better understanding of yourself, that will enable you to make choices and feel more freedom to find ways to move forward. As a counsellor, I will provide you with a safe, confidential  and supportive space to talk about your difficulties and hopes. I will listen without judgement and try to gain understanding of your life experience. I will be open and honest with you and support you to find your own best way forward, as you are the expert in your life experience. Counselling is not about getting advice.

'A problem shared is a problem halved' as the saying goes, may not necessarily be the case, but sharing can help to relieve the burden of your troubles and allow someone to provide support to help to try and make sense of it all.

I specialise in working outdoors and passionately believe in the positive benefits of exercise and being outdoors for mental health. I offer indoor face to face, telephone and online counselling if this is preferred.

Contact me to arrange a free no obligation 30 minute consultation to find out more  about how I may be able to help you.

ABOUT THE WALK AND TALK

What to expect

I have a variety of routes available to use depending on the weather, time available and your preferences. Some routes are on country lanes, some are on public footpaths, and these may include inclines, or if preferred flatter routes can be chosen. I am also prepared to consider other routes that you may suggest, but these would need to be risk assessed beforehand. This will all be discussed prior to meeting up for the session.

Each walk will last about an hour and I will strive to keep to this, barring the unpredictable aspects of the great outdoors. Sessions can be longer if preferred. The pace of the walk will be chosen by you.

We will also talk about safety, what you might need to bring for the session and what we might do if we meet others, though walks are generally in quiet areas with few people around.

Weather can be very unpredictable, and we will discuss your preferences with regards to weather conditions beforehand. It is your choice and I am happy to divert to telephone or online if needed.
